So friggin pissed!
Since this is the only blog I even remotely maintain at the moment, I'm going to vent here right now because I am so friggin' pissed off that I could spit!
I am a semi-pro photographer who is currently earning a big fat $0.00 paycheck, but creating some great images. I'll be shooting Warped Tour on Saturday on Long Island; I just shot a gal for SuicideGirls; one of my regular models is on GodsGirls; and I recently had a month-long solo photography exhibition out East on LI. I work damn hard and I do my very best to create images that I believe in.
That being said, nothing p***** me off more than to find out that my images- not just one, but MANY- are being stolen off my MySpace and DeviantArt accounts and being sold to Stock Photography websites by someone OTHER THAN ME. This means that someone out there is handing over my photographs, making probably damn good money doing it, and then other people are buying these images with the belief that they have legal rights to use them. They don't!
What kills me is not even the money- that doesn't really matter to me- it's the fact that someone would take someone else's work and hand it over and claim that it is legally their's to give/sell. That must take a set of big, f****** hairy balls! Seriously. And what's worse is that these images were all watermarked! So someone is removing the watermarks to do this.
Ugh.
I'm not a stranger to this as I have been a writer all my life and had countless written items stolen, but that's words. How do you watermark your words? You can't! Once they are out there, you are hoping that people have the good faith to not steal them; you have no means of protecting them. But a photograph? A photograph with a big fat "DO NOT STEAL" sign?
I don't care if you heist it for an avatar. That sucks and I'll be pissed, but deep down I'll also be flattered that you liked it enough to want to represent yourself online with MY work. People do this. Most people that do it are young and they don't know better. But to steal someone's work flat-out and sell it off?
