So, who read about Joel's incident with British Airways and is totally pissed that he felt embarrassed.

For those of you who don't follow Twitter, Joel was told he would have to put on a long sleeved shirt before he boarded their plane because of his tattoos. When I heard about it I was so ticked off. How dare they discriminate about something like that. I don't get it. What's next??? What year are we in anyway people??

I don't think it's a religion issue really people.

The churches of "england" and great britain have always been christian one way or another...maybe not always but for the last 1500 years or so.

Yesh they have done some great atrocities in the name of GOD but making Joel Madden put a shirt on isn't one of them I think.

it's probably that someone at BA doesn't like the grotesque look of tattoos plain and simple.

'it's probably that someone at BA doesn't like the grotesque look of tattoos plain and simple'.

You hit the nail on the head with that statement. It most likely WAS the reason for Joel's getting harassed. Just somebody who was offended by them and took it out on Joel because he had 'THE POWER'. Power does go to peoples heads. And to those other passengers who thought it was funny...well wait till they have something like this happen to THEM. Won't be so funny then will it?

well actually, I have had these kind of things happen to me and I still laugh at them myself...it's only a big deal if you make it so

I thought it was disgusting... People, no matter if it's Joel or some other none famous guy, should be subjected to that. So many people have tattoo's, some that are obscene, but Joel's aren't. It's just a form of expression, I've seen people wearing T-shirts that are far more offensive than most people's tattoo's. They don't get asked not to wear them in public.
As for the religion thing, as someone has said, people from some religions are allowed to cover the entire of their heads. I don't believe that anyone would dare ask them to take it off because it may offend some people, because that would be disrespecting their religion.
It was out right discrimination, someone abusing their authority at BA, maybe that has a grudge against tattoo's and was having a bitch-ass day...
Pathetic if ya ask me... My best mate is heavily tattooed and he's had similar treatment in places, been asked to leave etc...
Ridiculous...
I'd like to write to BA and let them know what I/we think about it on here?!

I just might. I don't and probably won't ever use that airline. But its disgusting to hear about this kind of crap in this day and age.

We should do a joint petition/letter thing, get people to put names to it and just say how disgusting we find it that they stopped someone boarding a plane based on their tattoo's... Being british, I'm kinda ashamed of them... I think they should know how against it people are... Maybe won't make much difference, but hey... As I said before, my best mate had a similar issue when he flew with them... certainly make me feel better...

After reading Joel's blog on here, I'm so impressed at how laid back he is. I wonder if he saw this thread?? Anyway, I'm still mad but if he is willing to let it go....Still, the news spread fast and I hope BA feels like total idiots right now.

So, Becky, they made your friend cover up as well??

Yeh, he was flying out with his band, France I think it was, so not exactly a massive trip, his tattoo's are more like Benji's, full sleeves and coloured, but they kept him waiting for a couple of hours and the guy told him he wasn't allowed on the plane until he covered up the tattoo's because it was 'unsightly'. He did eventually, they weren't going to budge on it, so he had to put a jumper on.
Hate that kind of discrimination though. But as ya say, big respect to Joel for being so cool about it... I wouldn't have been.

I think at some point everyone thats got tattoo's, piercings wild hair colour etc falls victim to discrimination, I know I have and I'm not exactly the most extreme looking person ever, just got a few tattoo's and piercings etc... Hate it when people judge purely on appearance.

I think it was only that's person's problem and judgement, brits have unique style and I think different style wasn't really the problem. It4 be still interesting to know why were tatoos offensive.

i'm glad joel is who he is so that it got all over the place in the media sense he's decided not to do much about it. discrimination of any sort should never go unnoticed and i get really upset when people just shrug their shoulders off when it comes to it. if you let it happen to yourself or others, it'll never stop. the guy needs to get in trouble for it and the airline is doing the right thing by reprimanding him.

i kinda wish people took this stuff more seriously.

The airline employee who made Joel Madden cover his tats before boarding a British Airways flight on Sunday in London is in deep trouble -- because B.A. is calling BS on him.

A rep for British Airways just straight up told us the employee is being reprimanded -- adding "we don't understand why the employee took it upon himself to enforce regulations that don't exist."

even they don't know why that happened, I think BA shouldn't be considered as bad company. There's always one crazy motherf*cker in the family ;)
