Hey, I'm not sure exactly when thet wrote it but they sang it in the film 'Not Another Teen Movie' where the whole band had a cameo as the band playing at the School Prom. The film was released in 2001 so the song was written before then sometime, definetly before they released the young and the hopless, i hope that helps.

That is an awesome song but they only covered it. a band from the 80's sang it originally. OMD or Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
