hi all :)

i'm doing a college project on Discrimination and i need to get people's experience with discrimination, if you would like to help just answer these questions please :)

Have Your Ever Been Discriminated Against?
What Was It For? (i.e Race, disability, sexual preference, stereotypes)
How Did It Make You Feel?

it would be a huge help to me as well, if you could put your age and where you live, but if you don't want to its fine too :D

thanks for all the help

Have I ever been discriminated against?
Yes. Age discrimination. It happens a lot to women when we hit a certain age. Somehow we come less attractive, less knowledgable, less of a woman just because we are older. You start talking with some people..especially young people and people automatically assume your some pedofile or wierdo. Case in point..Susan Boyle. When she walked on stage on Britains Got Talent everybody..even the judge panel.. took one look at her..formed an opinion without even knowing her and ASSUMED she was going to sound horrible. Surprise and shock when she sang so beautiful..a dowdy older woman. Hmmm. I've felt the discrimination a lot more lately and the older I get, I'm sure I will keep feeling it. But I don't let it get to me. Because I know who I am and I know that its still the same me..just in an older form. :) I think people like to put people in neat little categories, labels if you will. I have a love for life and I love to laugh and have family times and to enjoy the time that I've been given on this earth. I have been the victim of other forms of discrimination..but I tend to ignore it because there are always going to be ignorant and insensative people who think with tiny little minds. I won't ever let people like that dictate how I should be. I'm proud of who I am. I'm proud of my age. :)
I'm 55. I'm from Baltimore, Maryland.
Once I went into a Foxmoor store that we used to have in our local mall. One of the clerks came up to me and handed me a flyer about a sale that they had going on, and the next thing I know, I overheard the other clerk telling her not to waste the flyers on people like me. Now, my feelings were really hurt. I still don't know if they were referring to the fact that I was wearing jeans, sneakers, a t-shirt and hoodie (the store was obviously a place I never shopped) or because the store didn't sell anything in my size.(I'm a bigger girl.) I left immediately and never went back in there again. I know this doesn't sound like much but I was hurt and embarrassed. I was about 20 at the time and this happened in Burlington Vermont.
I know how you felt. Horribble feeling:/ But why didn't you go to the store menager? I'm sure if you would complain about it her/his supervisior then things would be diffrent..
That p***** me off. I hope you never have to experience anything like this again. But I know..people being what they are..somewhere..somehow..someone is going to act or say something in a negative manner..because some people are just ignorant. I hate when people discriminate against people's looks. :{
I should have gone to the store manager and if it happened today, I would. I was very shy and timid at 20 years old and had no self confidence whatsoever. today I would have probably said "what the hell is your problem?" or something like that to those girls. LOL.
You know what they say: people learn from their mistakes:)
I'm white, middle aged and male. Things are pretty sweet.

I do discriminate against others mind you. Maybe I can help you in that way?
