I'm looking for last nights setlist if anyone can help me out?
Yep you're right. I missed that, and incase I missed anymore here's my review that I wrote on the day, you can pick them out yourself.
Good Charlotte
Brixton Academy
Friday 18th May 2007
Tonight’s gig was the middle of my 3 gigs in 5 days. Out of the 3 acts I’m seeing this was the only one I’d seen before. And having not had a very good start to the year with gigs things picked up with a good show from Willy Mason on Wednesday, but I knew Good Charlotte could turn the notch up a lot more.
I got the 16.34 train to get me to Brixton Academy around 6pm. The queue was massive; just short of having to go round the corner for me. As always, being the shy child I am, I never spoke to anyone. The crowd was full of 14 and 15 year old girls and the majority of the crowd had black makeup on and wearing black clothes. It was the girls that were screaming when members of Good Charlotte were opening the window above us in the queue. I saw them throw out a couple of picks. The time passed by fine and we were soon in after 7. I went into the stage room and got a place right behind a barrier, 15 metres from the stage.
The first support band came on at 7.30. They were called Linchpin. To me, the lead singer looked like he use to be in Hanson. But this group were a bit rockier than that. Their performance was good but I didn’t like their music. And during their final song the lead singer tried getting the crowd to sing a long to a line but I didn’t work so he just left us out! Reading their Myspace profile they are 16, so maybe he wasn’t in Hanson then.
They finished at 8. The second support band, Beat Union came on at 8.20. These were louder and their music was s***. The lead singer was getting the crowd involved a lot and he was doing my head in before they’d finished. Fortunately at 8.50, they were finished.
It felt like a long wait after that. But finally, at 9.35, the intro to Good Morning Revival started and on came Good Charlotte. All the young girls screaming was deafening! The first song they played was Misery.
Billy was on left of stage and stayed there for most of the evening. Joel was next to him and Benji just on the right of him. Paul was on our side, wearing a shirt with Jesus tied to the cross on it. And Deano was at the back on the stage with his drums.
The second song they played was the Anthem and then Walk Away. Keep Your Hands Off My Girl was next which the crowd got to sing a line at the end on their own.
I think it was Benji who told us about something in life that could out to be really expensive and he just wanted to warn us. This was his way of introducing the next song… Girls and Boys!
That was followed by Victims of Love and Predictable.
Joel talked between most songs throughout the night. He tried praising the two support bands, saying the first were “14 year olds” that had asked to support him on tour. He said he liked it when small bands asked to support them and then played Festival Song…
Benji had earlier said that the Manchester crowd were the craziest on tour so far to make us louder. And every mention of “Manchester” after that was followed by a boo. Even when they were introducing their drummer who was originally from Manchester, that got a boo! The next song was anyone (everyone!) who’s felt down before. The next song was Hold On.
That was followed by March On and Dance Floor Anthem.
The clapping from the crowd was poor. Not many joined in and it never lasted very long. But for the choruses on most of the songs we jumped through.
The next song, Joel introduced by saying when they were starting out that they were told they were young and hopeless. I’m glad they were told that because it inspired them to write such a great song.
After the Young & Hopeless they finished the show off at 22.40 with I Just Wanna Live.
They had only been gone for 2 minutes with the crowd clapping and cheering before they came out for the encore (shouldn’t use the word “only” there, I prefer it when they don’t stay backstage for long!)
They came out and played All Black and then The River.
They were trying to get everyone on the floor to do a mosh pit for the final song. It didn’t work out but there were many many people in one, to the left of me. Their final song was Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
They said we were the craziest crowd in the world as they left the stage at 11pm.
I’d sung along to most of the songs and jumped through the choruses of a few. I was sweating! This was a lot of work for a fat, lazy kid like me! I enjoyed this show so much. I love Good Charlotte and they are fantastic live. The best show I’ve been too this year.
I didn’t stay behind for any merchandise or buy any from outside. I headed straight for the tube and got that back to King’s Cross. I didn’t expect to get the 23.33 when I got to the station 3 minutes after that, but it was still there, thankfully.

Here is my review to that gig (sorry for the delay!):
Towards 7pm the queue was pushing up, and then after 7 we began moving in. After turning the corner I realised I was in the right queue (there was only one) and that I was further back than I ever had been at Brixton academy!
Despite being some way back in the queue I was only about a dozen rows back from the front and central. And with most of the crowd being youngsters, it was easy to see over them and I had good view.
There was a large banner at the back of the stage with “Rooney” written on and a big polar bear too. Unfortunately it wasn’t promoting those Ice Mints, but the support band themselves. They can on at 8 and played for 35 minutes. They got a good reception from the crowd, although personally I didn’t like them. Not as much hatred towards them as the previous 4 support bands I’ve seen at Good Charlotte gigs, these played well live but I didn’t like their songs.
By the time they’d finished (8.35) I was confident I wouldn’t have to put up with another support band. As 2 support bands is too much at any gig. Especially when they’re crap, which in my experiences, is most of the time.
The lights went down and some tune began to play as some green lights pointed around. This tune lasted for 5 minutes, with lots of girls screaming loudly, before Good Charlotte came out on stage, to louder screams and cheers.
They opened with The River before moving on to the Anthem. Throughout both of these the crowd were pushing forward and I was crushed, at times my stomach pushed against the guy’s back infront of me, with my head being forced up. And when jumping during these my head smashed against someone’s chin behind me. That gave me head an ache, I don’t know how bad it was for them. And I was sweating badly in my vest and unzipped coat.
After that came the Chronicles of Life and Death followed by My Bloody Valentine. By this time I was moving/being pushed to the right away from the heavy crushing and probably a row further back too.
Keep Your Hands Off My Girl was followed by S.O.S.
After this, Joel asked for the girls to scream which was night the nicest thing for our ears. And after that he asked for the men to cheer, which we need, but not as deafening as the ladies. He then asked for the girls to cheers, followed up by the boys. Then they played Girls & Boys.
The only song they played from their first album last night was East Coast Anthem, that was the next song.
Joel and Benji told us a few times throughout the night how much they loved London and English bands (similar to the last time I saw them, nearly a year ago). They said their friends Dave from Simple Plan, some members from Babyshambles, someone from a Norwegian band I’d never heard of and Tom from Kerrang magazine were here tonight.
The next songs they played were Victims of Love, Predictable and the Young and the Hopeless.
They said the next song they were about to play was dedicated to anyone in the crowd who’d lost someone or someone we loved. The next song was Hold On.
Then Joel went on about the greatest love of his life, his 3 month old daughter, and her favourite band (at that age?!?) is the Cure. He thanked his band mates for learning the song he was about to play... Lovesong.
That and the one that followed, Where Would We Be Now were the only 2 I didn’t know/remember the lyrics too and were the only ones I didn’t sing along too last night. Of course my singing is awful and out of tune (and not very loud in fairness), so this was probably the best moment of the night for the people around me. This was a solo by Benji after his fellow band members had left him. He told us he was in love too. After that he played what he said is one of his favourite “Good Charlotte songs”; Emotionless. I remember the guy infront of me looking at me for quite a while whilst I was singing to this one! Of course I didn’t join in with the “I miss you”.
After that the rest of the band came back and told us how much he loved us English people and that he’d been hanging out with Kaiser Chiefts and Muse at a recent festival in South Africa (why did they get cheered?!?). After that they played The World is Black.
Dance Floor Anthem came next. By this time I was much further back, closer to the back than the front and closely keeping an eye on the large mosh pit to my left at times.
I Just Wanna Live came next. Sometime before this, and more towards the beginning of a show, Joel pulled out a “I Love GC” sign from the crowd (and once again complimented the fans) and pointed out an “I’m gay for Billy” sign in the crowd that got a cheer.
They finished at 10.50 with Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. There was a break during the song where Joel told us that he didn’t care about the media, not sucking up to them or moaning in them and that he was so happy to be doing what he is doing. There was no encore!
Another great performance from them and the loudest crowd of the 3 I’ve been in, seeing them. I think there were significantly less “14 year old” girls than previously. Joel did cheesily say it was the best looking crowd he’d ever seen in London, and I have to agree there were lots of beautiful ladies around! Not that I should say that, being a personality and emotional man myself.
With help from a friend (via text) I found the bus to St Pancras and then got the train home, getting back just before 1am. A great night out. I love gigging (despite the price) and hope more artists/bands I like would come around!!
oh, THAT'S what they mixed in with My Bloody Valentine! - thank you thank you thank you, I had no idea what the song was, or even whether it was a cover.
